Friday 14th September 2012 – 63 miles

Competitors joining the race at this stage for the Oxford Ultra must arrive for registration and equipment checks, between 6.00am and 8.00am on Friday 14th September 2012. Race start for both events will be 8.30am, following a race brief. Full details of options for getting to Shifford Lock will be provided later, but all competitors must be self-sufficient in this respect.
From Shifford Lock continue down the Thames through Newbridge and over Hart’s Weir Footbridge onto Bablock Hythe, a famous Thames Crossing.
The path leaves the river here for a while, returning at Skinner’s Weir and along to Pinkhill Weir. Between Wytham Great Wood and the Thames, the path leads on to Oxford’s edge, the spectacular Sandford Weir and then Culham and Cholsey.
A departure from the river bank brings us through Moulsford, but soon returns, going past Streatley and Whitchurch-on-Thames. A short deviation through the town of Purley Park, past Tilehurst, Reading, Henley-on-Thames and finally Marlow Bridge which is Camp-Site Two for Thames Challenge competitors, or the conclusion of The Oxford Ultra.
At Camp-Two, hot food will be supplied with unlimited free water and hot drinks. Medical assistance will be available at each camp-site to assist with care of feet and advise on individual fitness levels for those who intend proceeding with the Thames Challenge race.
It is anticipated that this stage will also benefit from a minimum of five check-points; all of which will provide water and some nutrition.
