Friday 1st June 2012 – 45 miles

Competitors joining the race at this stage, to compete in The Hafren Ultra, must arrive for registration and equipment checks between 5.00am and 7.00am. Complimentary breakfast for the ‘7’competitors will be available between 6.00am and 7.00am. Race start for all competitors is 8.00am.

From Cefn-Coch the route remains away from the river, going through Hollybush, Rhyd-y-felin, and finally rejoining the river Severn at Dolerw Park, passing the Gorsedd stone circle, which marks the site of Newton’s Eisteddfod. Continue along the river Severn which joins the Montgomery Canal Walk, past the Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve, Welshpool, Offa’s Dyke Path, Breidden Hills through to Montford Bridge. Onward through Bicton entering the outskirts of Shrewsbury and finally reaching Camp-Two Shrewsbury. This marks the conclusion of The Hafren Ultra, where all finishing competitors will receive their finishers’ medals and t-shirts. Continuing ‘7’ Competitors can give these to the race organiser & collect later, and can then take a well earned rest and try to recuperate for the followings day’s Stage 3 race.

Hot food will be supplied with unlimited free water and hot drinks. Medical assistance will be available at each camp-site to assist with care of feet and advise on individual fitness levels for those who intend proceeding with the ‘7’ race.

It is anticipated that this stage will also benefit from a minimum of six check-points; all of which will provide water and some nutrition.
